Covid-19 Vaccine for Kids (5-11yrs)
In addition to Pfizer covid-19 vaccine suitable for people aged 12 and older, Glebe Hill Family Practice (45 Hance Road Howrah) now stocks Pfizer covid-19 vaccine for kids aged 5 to 11 years.
It's recommended that all children aged 5 to 11 years completed a course of two doses, 8 weeks apart. The interval can be shortened to a minimum of 3 weeks in special circumstances – for example, if your child is identified as a subgroup at risk of moderate or severe COVID-19 during a local outbreak, before your child starts any immunosuppressive treatment or prior to overseas travel overseas.
Immunisation Clinics
We are running Immunisation Clinics at Glebe Hill Family Practice on Tuesday mornings with Dr Alice Frampton, and Friday afternoons with Dr Gianni Fantini. You can book online via the AMS Connect app, or this website.
If you're booking outside of the designated Immunisation Clinics please phone 6169 0000 to check with our friendly Receptionists that the GP you book in with is has completed the required training and is able administer the vaccine.
Reactions
Children may experience some side effects after vaccination. Most side effects last no more than a couple of days and they will recover quickly. Common reactions to vaccination include:
- pain, redness and/or swelling where they received the needle
- mild fever
- headache
- fatigue (children aged 6 months to 5 years).
If your child has had covid-19
If your child has had COVID-19 you should wait 3 months after the confirmed infection before they have a COVID-19 vaccine dose. This is to optimise their vaccine protection. A longer gap between infection and vaccination is likely to lead to a better immune response and result in longer protection from reinfection. The next scheduled dose of COVID-19 vaccine should be given as soon as possible after 3 months.
